Since its founding in 1945, Buffalo Turbine has remained at the forefront of air movement technology. From pioneering agricultural spraying techniques to developing cutting-edge debris blowers used across various industries, our legacy is built on innovation, quality, and unwavering commitment to performance.
Our History
1930s
Agricultural Innovation
In the 1930s, a pressing need arose within the agricultural sector for lightweight and efficient crop spraying equipment. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) conducted extensive research to develop methods for concentrate mist spraying. Although methods were established, the challenge of creating a practical and effective dispersal system remained. This research laid the foundation for future innovations in air movement and application.
War-Time Engineering and Founding
World War II sparked a wave of technological advancements, including significant improvements in air movement systems. Among these was the development of the Buffalo Turbine Axial Flow Blower, inspired by the super-chargers and axial flow blowers used in military aircraft and wind tunnel testing. In 1945, Buffalo Turbine Agricultural Equipment Company was incorporated in Gowanda, NY. Working closely with the USDA, state departments, and leading agricultural colleges, Buffalo Turbine began designing high-quality air movement equipment for both military and agricultural applications.

Public Health and Agricultural Partnerships
Throughout the 1950s, Buffalo Turbine collaborated with public health departments to develop dust and spray models that addressed increasing needs for fly and mosquito control. A major milestone came in 1957 when Buffalo Turbine introduced the first proven granular insecticide and fungicide applicator, aiding the USDA’s fire ant eradication efforts and mosquito control across the nation.
Military and Agricultural Expansion
The 1960s marked continued innovation as Buffalo Turbine expanded its product offerings to serve military and agricultural markets. Notably, the Mighty Mite backpack sprayer/duster became a portable and efficient solution for pest management, reflecting the company’s dedication to functional and practical equipment.

1970s-1980s
Product Evolution
Buffalo Turbine continued refining its sprayer and duster lines in the 1970s. The introduction of the Mighty Moe electric sprayer showcased a commitment to more versatile and user-friendly designs, meeting evolving industry demands.
The U.S. Military’s trust in Buffalo Turbine’s engineering led to the development of Mil-S-23923D specifications for sprayer and duster units. This collaboration reinforced the brand’s reputation for reliability and innovation. A change in company ownership in 1989 marked the beginning of a new phase of growth and development.
Technological Advancements
In 1994, Buffalo Turbine moved to Springville, NY, marking a new chapter in its journey. The company introduced the first turbine-style debris blowers in 1996, revolutionizing air power applications. By 1997, the debut of the Cyclone KB tow-behind and PTO-driven turbine debris blowers cemented Buffalo Turbine’s presence in the golf and landscaping industries.

2000s-2010s
Modern Innovation and Market Leadership
Entering the new millennium, Buffalo Turbine continued its legacy of innovation. From the debut of debris blowers at NFL Super Bowls in 2001, to PGA Tours, plus NHRA and NASCAR tracks, the company establishes itself as a leader in the field. The Monsoon product line with its revolutionary gyratory atomizing nozzle adds dust and odor control for the demolition and recycling industries.
In collaboration with the United States military, Buffalo Turbine develops turbine blowers to help save lives in the battlefield by clearing roadside explosive devices.
Leading the Future
With 14 industry firsts and counting to date, Buffalo Turbine’s commitment to quality, performance, and innovation remains stronger than ever. Recent introductions include the Cyclone KB7, Cyclone MEGA3, battery electric Cyclone eKB, and the industry-first Blitz Stand On Turbine Blower.
